In areas where the ethnolinguistic vitality of a minority language is weak, stratification exists within the ethnic minority group. Based on the field work in Tianzhu Tibetan autonomous county, the results show the diff erences in terms of language acquisition and language competence. Individuals without access to high-quality language education resources remain in a low socio-economic status due to their lack of advantages in the process of entering a higher school and choosing a career. This paper argues that increasing the input of education resources and enhancing the role of Putonghua in reducing poverty are basic conditions for promoting the full participation of minorities in social and economic development. At the same time, it is also important to fully explore the potential economic value of minority languages and create an environment for minority teenagers to actively learn minority languages.
