19世纪末，随着新加坡因国际商贸迅速崛起，随中国移民而来的闽粤方言等“几样华语”与发达的商贸活动相遇，共同创造的多姿多彩的华语商贸词汇，是华语词汇中数量众多且颇具特点的一类。当时《叻报》《星报》等南洋华文报章上的商贸词汇大致分为“商品商标”“经营交易”“货币凭证”3类，可展示早期南洋华人在与当地商贸文化的互动中，方言于词汇层面跨语际、跨文化的创新发展。闽粤方言本身既是华语商贸词汇的来源，同时也是译借英语和当地语言词汇的中介。华语商贸词汇证明，早期南洋华语具有重要的语言文化价值。（1）汉语史价值：大华语视域中的域外汉语文献为近现代汉语史书写提供了宝贵材料；（2）方言史价值：方言随华人迁徙而流布，并在与其他方言和语言的接触中互相影响；（3）文化史价值：华语的海外发展反映了华人在与其他文明互鉴中的自觉与借镜。

In the late 19th century, with the rapid rise of Singapore driven by international trade,   various Chinese varieties such as Minnan dialect and Cantonese brought by Chinese immigrants came into sustained contact with the booming commercial activities and jointly created a diverse range of overseas Huayu commercial vocabulary. This interaction gave rise to a rich and distinctive body of commercial vocabulary, which constitutes a substantial component of the early Nanyang Huayu lexicon. Drawing on commercial expressions collected from Chinese-language newspapers of that period, including the Lat Pau and the Sing Po, this paper classifies these expressions into three broad categories: goods and trademarks, business operations and transactions, and currency and commercial instruments. Through selected examples, it illustrates the translingual and cross-cultural lexical innovations of Chinese dialects used by early Nanyang Huayu communities in their interaction with local commercial practices. Minnan dialect and Cantonese functioned not only as major sources of commercial vocabulary, but also as a medium for translating and borrowing words from English and local languages. The commercial lexicon demonstrates the linguistic and cultural significance of early Nanyang Huayu: (1) From the perspective of Global Chinese, Nanyang Huayu documents provide valuable evidence for reconstructing the history of modern and contemporary Chinese; (2) these documents shed light on the historical development of Chinese dialects as they travelled with migrant communities and evolved through contact with other languages; and (3) these linguistic developments demonstrate the self-awareness and reflective reference of overseas Chinese in the process of mutual learning from and interacting with other civilizations.
